World Champion Softball Player Leah Amico

Back in September, I was blessed to meet softball legend and SportsWorld personality Leah Amico. The wisdom that she shared with our junior high and high school students was life-changing. She stressed that one should “Always believe, because with God, all things are possible.”

According to leahamico.com, Leah is a three time Olympic Gold Medalist with USA Softball, a two time World Champion, a National Softball Hall of Fame Inductee in 2009, and a three time National Champion at The University of Arizona. At Arizona, Leah was also honored as a three time First Team All-American and a three time First Team Academic All-American for her excellence both on the field and in the classroom. She holds records for the highest batting average in the Women’s College World Series. Leah also serves as a college softball analyst with ESPN and Westwood One Sports.

Still known as one of the most clutch hitters of all time, Leah’s sports career is impressive, but her faith more than matches it. When she spoke to our students she stated, “God used a softball to not only change my life, but to give me a platform. But God had to show me first that even though I was a good person and knew who Jesus was, I didn’t really know Him.”

During her junior year at Arizona, at the invitation of college friend and teammate Jules, Leah attended the Bible study that changed her life. In that Bible study, she felt like the Holy Spirit called to her heart saying, “You don’t really know me,”  and she did want to know Him. He had indeed given her talents so that she could shine for His glory, and she began to do that right away. Even though her friend Jules passed away tragically at the age of 21, and even when she lost two more young friends unexpectedly, Leah continued to seek and serve God through her grief. She says those losses made her reflect on what really matters most.

Leah encouraged our students with these statements:

“Surrender [to God’s will] is everything.”

“Things get hard, and sometimes in the hard you find there’s a bigger purpose for you.”

“There’s power in your words; there’s even more power in your obedience and actions.”

“You have no idea of the multiplication factor when a soul is surrendered.”

Leah now:

Leah now lives in Eastvale, California with her husband Tommy and three children. She currently works in the ministry and occasionally offers commentary for ESPN. On March 6, 2024, Amico was named head coach for the Florida Vibe of the AFP.

Give your talent to Him!

God gifted Leah Amico with a talent in a sport that she loves. Then He turned it into her ministry. He will do that for everyone. I love writing and telling stories. He made me an English and drama teacher in a Christian school. Find what you love and give it to Him. What He does with it will blow you away, and you will have more fun than you ever dreamed.

God bless you and inspire you to greatness in His service.
