The Profound, Unconditional, Miraculous Provision of Abba

Abba Father provides for us out of His profound, unconditional, miraculous love. It is a reflection of His very nature (I John 4:7-21), demonstrated unquestionably through the sacrifice of His son, Jesus Christ, and evident in the daily blessings He bestows. This provision isn’t based on human merit but flows from God’s inherent goodness and desire for a relationship with His beloved, offering strength, purpose, and eternal life.

Of course, God blesses His children. Life, breath, health, strength, and companionship are all great blessings. Food, clothing, and a comfortable place to sleep, are also counted as blessings. In fact, God’s word indicates that He customizes our blessings, not only because of our needs, but because of our desires: “Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart“ (Psalm 37:4). Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change” (James 1:17). “By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know Him, the one who called us to Himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence” (2 Peter 1:3).

Today I want to testify about a very specific blessing. This may be quite minuscule  in a world of huge, terrifying threats, but I believe that Abba cares about the little things in our lives as much as the big things, and I also believe that sometimes, Abba does things for us just because He loves us. Here’s my story, and it happened just this morning:

Let me set the scene: First of all, I’m broke … the post-holidays and family visits type of broke … the ok to not be a good steward just once a year, please, Lord, broke. Second of all, payday is a few days away and my husband and I have committed to the Daniel fast for 21 days which began today and requires very specific food items that I purchased yesterday with the end of the food budget. Third, my kitty is at the bottom of her bag of dry food. Scrat–the sweet, tiny cat that someone threw away next to our house a couple years ago, and who has become an important part of our family–has some special dietary needs: sensitive tummy, dry, sensitive skin, and intolerance to fish. I have tried explaining to her that she has to cut back for just a couple of days, but she doesn’t understand. She empties her bowl, then looks up at me like, “Momma, where’s the rest?” Oh, the guilt! This morning on the way to school I prayed about being a better steward with my money.

When I walked into the high school building, a teacher/friend was waiting for me. She asked if I had a minute and I said, “Sure.”

Her story went like this: “I was at my son’s house over the weekend, and they had a Walmart order delivered, and it was all wrong. When they deliver the wrong items, they credit you, but they won’t take them back. There were steaks and nice, thick pork chops–we really ate well. But they also brought this and my son only has a dog. I wondered if you could use it.” She then handed me a six pound bag of–get this!–IAMS Proactive Health Sensitive Digestion and Skin, turkey based cat food. A custom order for little Scrat!

I don’t believe in coincidences. I do believe in the profound, unconditional, miraculous provision and love of our Heavenly Father, who gives to us (even those of us on four paws) when we are in need, and sometimes gives to us just because He loves us. I can’t stop smiling. I hope you are now smiling, too, because a happy heart is also a blessing.

“Praise God from whom all blessings flow! Praise Him all creatures here below. Praise Him above ye heavenly host. Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost!”
