So says my “2016 Presidential Platform Survey” that came in the mail the other day, and purports to be a genuine survey asking potenial Republican supporters what issues they should focus on. Of course, there may be a modest degree to which it does this, but by and large the questions are loaded, and designed in themselves to elicit support (e.g., “Do you believe that reducing the federal corporate tax rate, now one of the highest in world, will help stimulate job creation and economic growth?”), and, the bottom line is the request for a donation of minimally $15 “to help cover tabulating my Survey.”
But the key is question 5, “Which of the following policy stances do you believe our 2016 Republican Presidential Nominee should embrace?” — and every last one is phrased in a way that makes it clear that the “right” answer is a yes. Of these, midway through, is this one, “Supports a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants.”
Which I’m interpreting as meaning that the Republican establishment wants us to check this box along with the others.
