So here he is: my first attempt at an amigurumi animal, based off a panda bear pattern from the internet, but, as you can see, done as an ordinary teddy bear. I finished it off in time to give to my youngest as a birthday present (his 8th birthday, but he’s not too old to enjoy it), but I’m not sure that I’ve found my new (non-blogging) hobby, as crocheting him was a major pain, especially the arms and legs, just in terms of needing to hold a small piece in such a way as to be able to keep the tension in the yarn and simultaneously manipulate the hook correctly. And sewing him up afterwards was likewise a major pain.
My next thought is to browse through the selection of crochet books at the library and see if there’s any other projects that look interesting, since, in any case, the concept of crochet seems promising enough, more so than knitting, since there’s only one stitch/loop to fuss with at a time.
Anyway, I was pretty disappointed with this guy at first, because the face looks more rat-like than teddy bear-ish. But he’s growing on me.
