What Lies Ahead

I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.

Philippians 3.12-14

what lies ahead

I haven’t done this in awhile. However, I feel like I need to respond to the Scripture. My Dad used it in his message last night. Before church he and I talked about a similar theme. I don’t mean to cause any disdain or confusion. However, I must be honest.

Recently in my quiet times I believe the Holy Spirit has been challenging me with a similar thought. I have been focusing too much on my past, and not enough on what lies ahead.

This is a really difficult thought to ponder, especially if you know my situation. How can I just focus less on my past and more on my future?

In many ways, I feel like I am in a grieving process. It’s not so easy to flip the switch.

How do you lift your gaze from your current circumstances, and look to the horizon, possibly dream about what lies just over the horizon?

In the end, a lot of thoughts cross my mind, a lot of ways to interpret this Scripture. And so I say only what I can to just a few who are walking with me at this time.

The who’s, what’s, where’s, and why’s of the future are slowly coming into focus. Some of them have already been there in the past and will be there in new ways in the future.

This is a song my youngest son and I like.
