God Loves Because He Loves

God Loves Because He Loves

The LORD did not set His love on you nor choose you because you were more in number than any other people, for you were the least of all peoples; but because the LORD loves you, and because He would keep the oath which He swore to your fathers, the LORD has brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you from the house of bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt. “Therefore know that the LORD your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments;
(Deuteronomy 7:7-9 NKJV)

Why does God loves us? It is because God loves. It is as simple as that. God loves us because He chooses to love. He freely made the choice to love us and therefore He loves us.

Because God loves us, He is:

faithful

covenant-keeping

merciful

God shows that He loves us by being these qualities. But the foundation from which this qualities spring is His love. God is love it says in 1 John 4:8 – and therefore He can love.

Why does God love us because He loves us? What is the reason that God chooses to love us? Where does God make the decision that loving His creation is better than hating His creation? Why doesn’t He just make demands on us because He is God? Why doesn’t God just say: OK, I made you and now you owe me. Where is the source of God’s desire to love us because He loves us?

Therefore know that the LORD your God, He is God…
(Deuteronomy 7:9 NKJV)

God loves us because He loves us because He is God. It is as simple as that. God is a God of love. God being who He is – God – can only do what God can do. God loves. God can do much more than just love, but the basis of His actions is His love.

You may say: What about His holiness? Is not God different because He is holy? What is holiness anyway – holiness is the idea of being separate. The fact that God is holy means that He is separate and unique in quality integrity and character. Basically we are saying there is no one else like God. God is unique. This is why when we refer to other gods, we use little “g” and when we refer to Lord God, we use capital “G”. But then the question is: What makes God holy? God is holy because He is who He is. He called Himself to Moses as – “The One who always is”. The One who has always existed. Yet, what makes God separate? What makes God who He is and has always been? What makes God unique? God loves. God loves because He loves. No other god loves. Other gods demand without any reason. No other gods can provide the love that humanity needs. However, God can provide because He loves.
