Stretching the Universe

Stretching the Universe

Stretching the Universe is a simple thought reflection from Job 9:8 about the source of the universal stretching is God.

“He alone stretches out the heavens and treads on the waves of the sea.” (Job 9:8, HCSB)

If there was a beginning point (oddly named the “Big Bang”) and the universe continues to stretch, then the Bible reveals that the Person who did the stretching is God.

“He stretches the northern skies over empty space; He hangs the earth on nothing.” (Job 26:7, HCSB)

“He wraps Himself in light as if it were a robe, spreading out the sky like a canopy,” (Psalm 104:2, HCSB)

“He made the earth by His power, established the world by His wisdom, and spread out the heavens by His understanding.” (Jeremiah 10:12, HCSB)

Of course, the Bible is not a science textbook, and the people who wrote the Bible did not have the scientific, technologically advanced knowledge that we have today. The Bible provides a grand explanation for the scientific questions. Science may seem like it conflicts with the Bible. However, the more we learn in science, the more we understand that God is smarter than the greatest scientist, and science will only have another type of explanation for the same events. Eventually, these explanations will fall under the sovereign power of a God who is bigger than any scientific explanation.
