My People
December 6, 2014 Year B
These verses compose a set of prophetic statements about Israel. Israel, the people of God were declared “not my people” by the prophet Hosea. Now, there will be a reversal of fortune.
God will be their God, and they will be His people (Ezekiel 36:28).
Then God describes how He will make them His people.
God will take them from the nations (Ezekiel 36:24)
God will gather them from all the countries (Ezekiel 36:24)
God will bring them into their land (Ezekiel 36:24).
God has already re-established their land in 1948. He has also started this process. The Jews have continued to return from all over the world.
The next parts of this process, God will bring about in the future when Jesus returns.
God will cleanse them from their impurities and idols (Ezekiel 36:25). They will turn from the Antichrist and from other national idols of self-sufficiency.
God will remove their hearts of stone (Ezekiel 36:26) and will replace that heart with a heart of flesh – a heart that follows God.
God will place the Holy Spirit in them and God will “cause” them to follow and observe His ways (Ezekiel 36:27).
God will see His people back in His land that He gave them and they will be His people and He will be their God (Ezekiel 36:28).
What is the personal application? God will work things in my life so that I can be His child. God wants His people to be His people. He will do whatever is necessary so that they follow Him. He isn’t mean about it. However, He is meticulous. He brings about the best circumstances so that I can best follow Him.
Prayer: God, please bring about the best circumstances in my life so that I may best be your child – so that I can be a person who obeys and follows You.
