He Is Coming

December 22, 2014 Year B

before the Lord, for He is coming— for He is coming to judge the earth. He will judge the world with righteousness and the peoples with His faithfulness. (Psalm 96:13, HCSB)

Every child looks forward to Santa Claus coming on Christmas Eve. They wait all year. As his time comes near, they share what they want to get from Santa. On Thanksgiving, they see his first appearance on the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade. Then they wait for him to come to their house on Christmas Eve. He appears, and then he comes.

The same will be true with Jesus. This worship psalm is the music setting for the return of Jesus Christ. People worship and wait for Jesus to return. He is coming. Like that Thanksgiving parade, Jesus will appear for His children. He will rapture them. Later, like Christmas Eve, Jesus still through the heavenly chimney to Earth.

He will come to judge the world.

More than Santa ever did, Jesus will know who was naughty and who was nice.

Application: Am I looking forward to the return of Jesus like I wait for Santa each Christmas?

Prayer: God, help me be prepared in worship to look forward to the return of Jesus Christ.
