 God Satisfies Me

God Satisfies Me is a simple thought reflection for Thanksgiving from Psalm 63 about how I can find my satisfaction in God.

November 24, 2015 Year B

Satisfaction is defined as: fulfillment of one’s wishes, expectations, or needs, or the pleasure derived from it. This week, we will get satisfaction from a bountiful Thanksgiving meal. We will enjoy turkey, stuffing, cranberry jam, yams, pumpkin and pecan pie. We will have all kinds of food that we will enjoy.

What this food is to the body, God is to the soul (Psalm 63:1-5). I thirst for him like a person who wants water in the desert. A person feels completely satisfied with water after spending time in the desert. God provides that kind of satisfaction for my soul.

This is why one would meditate on Him (Psalm 63:6). The closer I am to God, the more satisfaction I get (Psalm 63:7-8). The thirstier I get, the more I want water. The closer I get to God, the more I want of Him.

The challenge is keeping that satisfaction in God. At points of our lives, we will want to go elsewhere to find satisfaction. The psalmist is in the desert and he is able to seek his satisfaction in God. However, in different environments, people are tempted to find satisfaction in other locations than in God. One sees mirages in the desert that looks like the real thing – but in the end, it is hallucination. There are things in this word which act like mirages in the desert. People will seek things like power for their satisfaction (Psalm 63:9). It’s the same temptation I encounter. Bigger and better is the desire of temptation to feel satisfied with other things . However, the temptation never satisfies. Instead, it destroys me (Psalm 63:10). The mirages never satisfy. Ultimately, satisfaction is found in God (Psalm 63:11).

Prayer: God, help me continued to find my satisfaction in You. Help me feed from Your Word, and drink from Your life.
