Rewards and Punishment

Revelation 22:12-16

During the days leading up to Christmas, children think about the presents they will receive on that special night. They look forward to a visit from Santa Claus.

Unlike Christmas, Jesus Christ has a reward which He will repay each person according to what they have done (Revelation 22:12). These rewards are for good works which Christians do to show others that Jesus Christ is their leader.

Jesus Christ is eternal (Revelation 22:13). He looks forward to reward people who have decided to follow Him (Revelation 22:14). He also will punish those who won’t follow Him (Revelation 22:15). The punishment is that these people who don’t follow Him are not allowed in to stay with Him. We call the place Heaven. Heaven is heaven because Jesus Christ is there. Those who are don’t follow Jesus will be punished by being banned from His presence.

Jesus is the prophesied Messiah who will reign and rule forever (Revelation 22:16). Our greatest reward is for us to be in His presence (Revelation 22:12). This, like Christmas, is something to which we can look forward.

Prayer: God, help me have an eternal perspective to see that my reward is being in Your presence for eternity.
