Days of Elijah

Days of Elijah

December 5, 2015 Year C

Malachi 4:1-6

The Day of Elijah comes before the Day of the Lord (Malachi 4:5). The Day of the Lord is the day of judgment (Malachi 4:1). The Day of Elijah is the day of salvation (Malachi 4:2).

Elijah came to point people to God. He left on a chariot of fire into heaven. Malachi predicts that Elijah would return before the Day of the Lord. When Jesus, He said John the Baptist was Elijah for those who believed John (Matthew 11:13-14).

But what about those who didn’t turn to Jesus the first time? Will there be a second chance? Some say that Malachi 4:5 predicts a second coming of Elijah before a second coming of Jesus.

I think that we are all living in the Days of Elijah. Until Jesus returns, everyone can share the Gospel with others (Malachi 4:6). We help turn people to God so that they may respect God and follow Him (Malachi 4:2).

We are called to live in the Days of Elijah so that no one would have to encounter the Day of the Lord.

Prayer: Help me live in the Days of Elijah so that others don’t have to experience the Day of the Lord.
