By Which We Are Saved by Preston Condra and Kelly Condra, is a book that is designed to help Christians share the Gospel with confidence. The structure of the book is similar to a companion book I Have Some Good News. Yet each book serves a different purpose. I Have Some Good News, is a book that can be given to anyone who wants to know how to have a relationship with Jesus Christ. By Which We Are Saved is a training resource for the Christian.

The book uses 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 as the basis for presenting the Gospel of Christ. Using that text, the authors take Chapter 1 to explain the five elements of the Gospel of Christ:

Who: Jesus Christ, God the Son, the one and only Savior of sinners, and the one and only way to salvation.

What: The death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ on the cross for our sins, a substitute for the sins of mankind and taking upon Himself the wrath of God against sin.

Why: Jesus died for us because every human being is a sinner and under penalty of death for sinning against God.

How: We can be saved from the penalty of sin by grace through faith.

Where: The source of the saving message is “according to the Scriptures.”

The book gives important tips about striking up spiritual conversations that lead to sharing the Gospel in Chapter 2 “May I Ask You Something?” In the following chapters, the authors address objections to each of the five elements of the Gospel of Christ. For example:

Chapter 3: Who He Is – addresses God and the Person of Jesus Christ (Colossians 2:9)

Chapter 4: What He Did – addresses the death, burial, and resurrection for sin (Titus 3:5)

Chapter 5: Why I Need It – addresses the reason I need salvation (Hebrews 10:31)

Chapter 6: How To Get It – shows how I receive salvation through faith (1 Corinthians 1:18)

Chapter 7: Where To Find It – shares a defense of the Bible as necessary for the Christian faith

They expand on the Gospel of Christ in each succeeding chapter. These chapters are followed by an appendix. In this excellent appendix, there is a list of objections. I believe that this the most helpful part of the book. The authors have shared a series of objections. Along with these objections, they provide excellent answers from the Bible. These answers give the reader the ability defend Christianity in a personalized way without offending the person who presents these objections.

Preston and Kelly Condra have published this book under their ministry called Sufficient Word Publishing. They are available for speaking, preaching, and training engagements.
