Lenten Reflection #10: Jesus Saves

Lenten Reflection #10: Jesus Saves

She will give birth to a son, and you are to name Him Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins.”
(Matthew 1:21, HCSB)

Jesus, from the Hebrew word “Yeshua” means God is salvation. In the Bible, the name of a person defines their destiny. While Joseph may have considered another name, the angel told Joseph that the child should be named Jesus. The reasons is because Jesus will save people from their sins.

The power of God to save humanity from their sins came through the life and work of Jesus. He lived a sinless life so that we could know the standard by which we would be judged. He died to pay for the judgment that we deserved for all of the sins we would and could commit. God raised His Son Jesus from death so that Jesus could also show us that we could overcome death as well – the ultimate saving work. The fact that God the Father would raise Jesus up would seal the saving work that Jesus would accomplish on the cross.

So Jesus lived up to His name. Have you considered how much Jesus has saved you? Have you thanked Him for living up to His name?
