Giving a Complete Rest to the Lord

Giving a Complete Rest to the Lord

February 8, 2016 Year C

The purpose of the Sabbath was for us to give our rest to the Lord. It is not designed as a rest day from just our work. It is also designed so that I could give a complete rest to the Lord (Exodus 35:2).

What does that mean? It means that I don’t just take a rest for myself. I can also give a rest to the Lord. I can give a rest to God by devoting a time of prayer and reflection about Him.

God intends the Sabbath to be a time when I do no work for myself. I also don’t spend time for myself. I spend it instead on God. I take time to discover more about Him and His relationship to me. The reason is so that I can remember Who it is that provides for me. God commands me to take this time to rest as a reminder. This reminder is to let me know that every day comes from Him. Every dollar is given by Him. Every opportunity is revealed by Him.

Prayer: God, thank You for Your Sabbath that. You have given me as a reminder of my rest in You.
