Psalm 81:1-16

“Trust and Obey” is a familiar hymn which reminds Christians how much easier life would be if we trusted God and obeyed Him. It rings similar to the praise at the beginning of this psalm (Psalm 81:1-3).

God had establish a singular statute which was given to Joseph while the people of God were in Egypt before their slavery (Psalm 81:5). So this statute predates the Mosaic Law.

God provided salvation from Egypt, even though the people grumbled all the way along (Psalm 81:7). God encourages us to listen to Him, even when He will correct us (Psalm 81:8-10). The problem is that we don’t like listening to authorities who correct us (Psalm 81:11). So God will give us over to our disobedience (Psalm 81:12). God reminds us that if we would quit being stubborn (Psalm 81:13), He would take care of everything (Psalm 81:14-16).

The same is true today. If we would only learn to trust and obey God, He will take care of everything in our lives.

Prayer: God, I want to trust and obey you. I know it is hard sometimes. I ask for forgiveness and I want to keep listening to You.
