For 70 years, The Guide Dog Foundation has trained and placed service dogs to provide increased independence, enhanced mobility, and companionship to people who are blind, have low vision or have other disabilities. The Guide Dog Foundation pairs each student with the dog that’s right for them – and the power of their bond makes ordinary moments extraordinary.

They are an incredible foundation with a mission to improve the quality of life to those with disabilities. Program students have broken down their barriers by using an assistance dog to enhance their independence. Here are some success stories:

Air Force veteran and recent guide dog program graduate Bob Shoemaker shares his story about making the decision to get a guide dog.

Wichita Kansas-native, Sanford (Sandy) Alexander was born legally blind and has used a guide dog for over 47 years.  Now, working with his ninth guide dog, Sandy speaks about his experiences during in the two-week training program.
