Marriage Letters: I Trust You Because…

Travis,

Maybe when I say it, I’m saying, “I will follow you.” And maybe when I say that, I’m saying, “You’re the one I trust.”

Man has failed me and still fails me.

Man has broken my heart and taught me that it stays broken for a while.

Man has given me reason to mistrust every other man.

You, Love, will fail me. You will break a piece of the heart you’ve been given.

And in that moment, we will fall on our knees, and we will stand again. We will hold hands and kiss and decide to walk together. Trust is formed and reformed and transformed again, and we walk this journey with that in mind.

Gerald Lescarbeault said, “It’s better to plunge into the unknown than to try to make sure of everything.”

We have rough days, rough seasons, and my heart hurts and is afraid. Still, I trust and follow you today. Still, I follow and trust you today. You have my heart.

The journey ahead is adventure. The journey is the gorgeous unknown, and, so far, you’ve given me every reason to follow after you.

So far, you’ve walked with your Maker, and it’s led us beside still waters. So far, I’ve trusted you, and so far, it’s been a blast.

Where you lead, I will follow.

Love you.

Kait
