Singer Jordan Smith has been wowing the judges on the NBC singing-competition show “The Voice,” and after the Top 12 performances, he lit up iTunes with a gorgeous rendition of the early 20th-Century Christian hymn “Great Is Thy Faithfulness.”

On the episode, which aired Monday, Nov. 16, Smith said the song took him back to “growing up and singing in church with my family.”

He also said, “God provides. He’s like, ‘I’m going to do everything for you; all you have to do is wake up every morning and be who you are.'”

Smith is a graduate of Tennessee’s Lee University, a private Christian college that’s also the alma mater of Clark Beckham, the runner-up in last year’s season of Fox’s “American Idol.”

In the immediate wake of Smith’s performance, “Great Is Thy Faithfulness” rose to number two on iTunes, right behind Adele’s “Hello.”

The next episode of “The Voice” airs Tuesday, Nov. 17, at 8 p.m. Eastern; online voting remains open until 9 a.m. ET on Tuesday.

Incidentally, the executive producer of “The Voice” is Mark Burnett, the man behind “The Bible” and “A.D.: The Bible Continues.” Obviously, Burnett couldn’t have predicted that Smith stay in the competition this long, but I expect he — and the Almighty — are mighty glad he did.
