“Who’s the Daddy?” Romeo Teacher Apologizes for Class Assignment

Who’s the Daddy?

Possible answers:  The cable guy, the mailman, the cab driver, the bartender, and the guy at the club.

In a story reported on CBS Detroit, a ninth grade biology worksheet asked students to determine, using blood types and DNA possibilities, the identity of a fictional baby’s father.  The worksheet was sent home with students at Romeo High School, about 30 miles north of Detroit.  The purpose of the assignment was to help students understand the complexities of genetics.

One unamused parent, though, sent the worksheet back to school unfinished with a note, “We teach our children not to sleep around.”

Both the teacher and the school principal have apologized.  Romeo Schools Superintendent Dr. Nancy Campbell explained that the teacher had gotten the worksheet from a resource book available to teachers.  Campbell said,

“Teachers use all kinds of different resources that are available to them.  [This incident] brings in awareness for all of our staff to, you know, be more thoughtful and reflective about the items they use when they put them on a homework assignment.”
