Chapter 27

Resting In The One Who Rests

“This is the way of those who hold something of the immeasurable greatness from above. They stretch toward the perfect One alone, who is a Mother for them.” [27:1-2]

The final chapter of The Gospel of Truth begins by addressing those of us who hold to the “immeasurable greatness from above” and yearn for “the perfect One alone, who is a Mother” for us all. Our connection with God assures us that, as beings who are fashioned in the exact image of perfect light and love, we will never taste the darkness. As children who are made from the Author of Life, we will never taste death. There is no fear. There is only perfect love. \

As the author continues:

“They do not go down to Hades, nor to they have envy or groaning. They do not have death within themselves, but they rest in the one who rests. They are not troubled or twisted around the Truth, but they are the Truth.” [27:3-5]

Such a bold and powerful assertion: that those who are made in God’s image are like God, and therefore exempt from death, and darkness; not uncertain of the Truth because they/we are the Truth.

“The Father is in them, and they are in the Father. They are full and undivided from the One who is truly good. They need nothing at all, but they are at rest, fresh in spirit, and will listen to their root.” [27:6-8]

Our Identity Confirmed in Christ

This is who we are: Children of the Father who are in the Father and of the Father. As Jesus promised, we are those who have come to realize, as he did, the glorious truth that changes everything: “In that day you will realize: I am in the Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.” [John 14:20] And this realization makes us one with the Father and with one another. We become bull and undivided souls. We realize our original goodness as we accept our undivided oneness with God. We become fully content within ourselves as we realize that we have everything we need – and more – to be content and complete and whole in God. We are at rest and refreshed. The vine and the branches have become aware of their common root which makes them one.

“They will concern themselves with those things in which they will find their root and not suffer loss to their souls. This is the place of the blessed. This is their place. May others in their places know that it is inappropriate for me, having come to the place of rest, to say another thing. It is there I shall dwell and be engaged in every moment with the Father of all things and the true brothers and sisters upon whom the love of the Father flows and in whose midst no need of him exists.” [27:9-12]

The Light of Truth Casts Out All Darkness

Bringing us home now, the author shows us our place of rest in the Father and feels the awe of silence enfolding him. He desires only to wait and rest and dwell in the sweet presence of the Father of all things whose perfect love permeates all reality, erasing all sense of emptiness.

“They are the ones who appear in truth and dwell in true and never-ending life. They speak of the perfect light, filled with the Father’s seed, which is in his heart and in the fullness [Pleroma]. His spirit rejoices in it and glorifies the one in whom it dwells. He is good and his children are full and worthy of his name. For he is the Father and it is children like this that he loves.” [27:13-17]

The Gospel of Truth ends with the stunning image of the Father surrounding his children with perfect light and eternal life. Each of us filled with the seed of the Father and centered in his heart, we are rejoiced over and glorified by the Spirit. God’s immeasurable goodness is all there is. His goodness fills us and overflows like a river of life. We are worthy of being called his own. He alone is our Father who loves us. We are beloved and cherished by the God of love. This is the truth that makes all things One.

So, now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you live from this gospel of truth.

Selah.
