Once again, the Apostle Paul compares the reality of Christ to our own reality. Christ was buried, and so we were buried. Christ was raised from the dead, and so we have been raised from the dead. Christ has received a new life, and so have we.
This quantum entanglement between Christ and all of humanity is evidence that Paul understood that what happens to one of us happens to all of us. Therefore, there is no separation between us. No separation between God and humanity. No separation between one human and another. We are all one in Christ.
This means our Oneness is non-negotiable. We are all one, and we are all in Christ. Christ is one, and we are one with all things in Christ.
One might ask, how did Paul know these things were true? Where did he learn this information? Where did these concepts of Oneness between the human and the Divine come from?
We could theorize that Paul had somehow been exposed to similar ideas from Eastern religions like Buddhism or Hinduism, but that would only be a guess without any hard evidence to back it up.
But why should we assume that spiritual and mystical truths like these must be communicated by writings or shared by gurus? Isn’t it obvious that human beings all over the world, and all throughout history, have all experienced their own individual “a-ha” moments of enlightenment apart from reading or studying theology first?
Buddha didn’t need anyone to teach him about enlightenment; he simply experienced it. Dozens of other mystics from a variety of religious backgrounds and beliefs have all had their own direct experience of transcendence, apart from the study of theological concepts. They simply received the truth as it came to them and realized the same thing in their own context: Everything is connected.
You can have this same experience right now, or anytime you like. Simply sit down in a quiet place. Close your eyes. Be still. Focus on your breathing. Soon, as peace begins to flood through you, you will begin to feel that connection to the Source. Your reality will bleed into the One. Your sense of self might even begin to fade into the background. Your sense of Oneness with the Universe will simply be.
No one needs to read or study to know these things are true. One simply needs to slow down, be still, and know the truth.
So, perhaps this is how the Apostle Paul came to understand that all things are one in Christ, and that nothing can ever separate us from God.
He knew this was true because he experienced it for himself.
Everyone should experience this truth.
It’s so much better than reading about it.
