New York

Some things must be called by their name. The name of what has happened in New York is evil. On the 46th anniversary of Roe vs. Wade, the New York passed landmark legislation that would allow for the termination of a pregnancy up to the ninth month of pregnancy. The law would allow for midwives, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants to perform the procedure. The law even removes protections for babies who somehow manage to survive the abortion procedure.

For those who supported the law, a baby is not a person until the baby is born. This thought is frankly unscientific on its face. 46 years ago when Roe was made the law of the land, we did not have access to the medical technology available to us today. Now, however, it is not only possible to see the outline of the baby in grainy sonogram pictures, but 4d ultrasounds also make it possible to see the developing child’s cheeks, nose, and lips. We know how the brain develops. We understand when the eyes begin to work. We know when the baby can recognize her mother’s voice. In short, we know that a baby at 40 weeks–and much earlier than that–is every bit as much of a person as a baby at birth. Somehow though, we allow the charade that the baby in utero is not a person. It is willful ignorance in support of a political end.

Ours is now a society that kills babies for convenience and profit. When the legislature of New York lept in celebration, when the One World Tower was lit pink, when the directors of Planned Parenthood voiced their celebration, they were all celebrating the right to end the lives of babies.

The only word to describe this state of affairs is evil.
