Translation, 1 Kings 3

Translation, 1 Kings 3 August 26, 2004

Again, a wooden, unpolished, but perhaps helpful translation.

And Shlomoh became son-in-law to Pharaoh king of Mizrayim.
And he took the daughter of Pharaoh
And caused her to enter (brought her) to the city of David
Until his finishing to build
His house
And the house of Yahweh
And the wall of Jerusalem around.
Only the people (were) sacrificing on the high places
For not built
was the house to the name of Yahweh until those days.
And Shlomoh loved Yahweh to walk in the ordinances of David his father
Only on high places he (was) sacrificing and turning to smoke.

And walked/went the king to Gibeon to sacrifice there
For it (was) the great high place
A thousand ascensions Shlomoh caused to ascend on that sacrifice-site (altar).

In Gibeon Yahweh was seen (appeared) to Shlomoh in a dream of the night.

And said Elohim,
?Ask what I shall give to you.?E

And said Shlomoh,
?You yourself did with your servant David my father great lovingkindness
Just as he walked before you
In truth
And in righteousness
And in uprightness of heart with you
And you have guarded for him this great lovingkindness
And you gave to him a son to sit on his throne
According to this day.

?But now, Yahweh my God,
You yourself have caused to rule as king your servant in the place of David my father
And I myself (am) a little boy
I do not know to go out and to enter.
But your servant (is) in the midst of this people
Which you chose,
A people
numerous
Which are not open to counting
And are not recorded/numbered
From numerousness.
?Now give to your servant a heart of hearing
To judge
your people
To be able to discern distinctions between good to evil
For who is able to judge
this your heavy people.?E

And good was the word in the eyes of the Master
For asked Shlomoh this thing/word.
And said Elohim to him,
?Because you asked this word/thing
And you did not ask for yourself numerous days
And you did not ask for yourself riches
And you did not ask the soul of your enemies
But you did ask for yourself discernment to hear justice.
Behold I have done according to your word/thing.

?Behold, I have given to you a hear of wisdom and discernment
Which just like you
There shall not be
Before you
And after you
There shall not arise
Just like you.

?And also what you did not ask I give to you
also riches
also glory.
There shall not be just like you a man among kings all your days.
And if you
walk in my ways
to guard my ordinances and my commandments
just as David your father walked
Then I will cause to lengthen your days.?E

And awakened Shlomoh
And behold a dream.

And he entered Jerusalem
And he stood before the ark of the covenant of the Master
And he caused ascensions to ascend
And he made peace offerings
And he made a wine-feast for all his servants.

Then entered two women, prostitutes, to the king
And they stood before him.
And said the one woman
?With your permission, my master:
I and this woman live in one house
And I bore a child with her in the house.
And it was on the third day to my bearing a child
And also this woman bore a child
But we ourselves together
There was not a stranger with us in the house
Except the two of us in the house.

?And died the son of this woman at night which she lay on him.
And she arose in the midst of the night
And she took the son from beside me
But your maidservant (was) sleeping
And she made him lie down in her bosom
And her son, the dead one, she made to lie in my bosom.
And I arose in the morning to suckle my son
And behold he was dead.
And I looked discerningly at him in the morning
And behold it was not my son that I bore.?E

And said the other woman,
?No.
For my son
the living
And your son
the dead.?E
And this one said,
?No.
For your son
The dead
And my son
The living.?E
And they spoke before the king.
And said the king,
?This says ?This my son the living one
and your son the dead.?E
And this says, ?No. For your son the dead
And my son the living.??

And said the king,
?Take for me a sword.?E
And they brought a sword before the king.

And said the king
?Cut the living child into two
And give the half to the one
And half to the one.?E

And said the woman which her son (whose son) the living to the king,
For her womb was agitated concerning her son
And she said,
?With your permission, Master.
Give to her the living baby
And dying do not cause him to die.?E
But this said,
?Neither to me nor to you shall he be.
Cut.?E

And answered the king
And said,
?Give to her the living baby.
And dying do not cause him to die.
This his mother.?E

And heard all Israel the justice which the king judged
And they feared from the face of the king
For they saw that wisdom of Elohim in his inner parts
To do justice.
