Translation, 2 Kings 2

Translation, 2 Kings 2 May 23, 2005

And it was in Yahweh’s causing-to-ascend ‘Eliyyahu in a windstorm to the heavens.

And walked ‘Eliyyahu and ‘Eliysha’ from the Gilgal.
And said ‘Eliyyahu to ‘Eliysha’,
“Dwell here please, for Yahweh sends me unto Beyt-‘El.”
And said ‘Eliysha’,
“Life of Yahweh and life of your soul, if I forsake you.”
And they went down [to] Beyt-‘El.

And came out the sons of the prophets which [were] in Beyt-‘El to ‘Eliysha’
And they said to him,
“Do you know that the day Yahweh takes your lord from over your head?”
And he said,
“Also I myself know. Silence.”

And said to him ‘Eliyyahu,
“‘Eliysha’. Dwell here please, for Yahweh sends me [to] Yeriycho.”
And he said,
“Life of Yahweh and life of your soul if I forsake you.”
And they entered Yeriycho.

And drew near the sons of the prophets which [were] in Yeriycho to ‘Eliysha’
And they said to him.
“Do you know that the day Yahweh takes your lord from over your head?”
And he said,
“Also I myself know. Silence.”

And said to him ‘Eliyyahu,
“Dwell here please for Yahweh sends me to the Yarden.”
And he said,
“Life of Yahweh and life of your soul if I forsake you.”
And they walked, two of them.

Now fifty man from the sons of the prophets walked and stood from before from afar.
Now the two of them stood over the Yarden.
And took ‘Eliyyahu his mantle-of-might and rolled it smoke the waters.
And they halved here and here
And they crossed over, the two of them, on dry-land.
And it was according to their crossing-over
And ‘Eliyyahu said to ‘Eliysha’
“Ask what I do for you before I am taken from with you.”
And said ‘Eliysha’
“May the be, please, a mouth of two in your spirit to me.”
And he said,
“You are make difficulty to ask. If you see me taken from you it will be for you thus.
But if there is not, it shall not be so.”
And it was they themselves [were] walking to walk and talking
And behold a chariot of fire and horses of fire
And they separated between the two of them.
And ascended Eliyyahu in a windstorm to the heavens.

Now ‘Eliysha’ saw and he himself cried out,
“My father! My father! Chariot of Yisrael and his horses.”
And he made strong his garments and he tore them into two torn-pieces.
And he caused-to-rise the mantle-of-might of ‘Eliyyahu
Which fell from over him.
And he returned and stood over the lip of the Yarden.
And he took the mantle-of-might of ‘Eliyyahu which fell from over him
And he struck the waters
And he said,
“Where Yahweh ‘Elohim of ‘Eliyyahu, also he himself?”
And he struck the waters
And they halved here and here
And crossed over ‘Eliysha.’

And saw him the sons of the prophets which [were] in Yeriycho from opposite
And they said,
“Rests the spirit of ‘Eliyyahu on ‘Eliysha’.”
And they entered to call him
And they prostrated themselves to him on the land.
And they said to him,
“Behold, please. There are your servants fifty men, sons of virility.
Let them walk, please, and seek your master
Lest the spirit of Yahweh carried him and flung him away
on one of the mountains or in one of the valleys.”
And he said,
“You shall not send.”

And they urged on him until he was ashamed
And he said, “Send.”
And they sent fifty man
And searched three days
But they did not find.
And they returned to him,
But he himself was dwelling in Yeriycho.
And he said to them,
“Did I not say to you, ‘Do not walk’?”
And said the men of the city to ‘Eliysha’,
“Behold, please. The dwelling of the city is good as my master sees.
But the waters [are] evil
And the land miscarries.
And he said,
“Take for me a dish, a new one, and place there salt.”
And they took to him.
And he caused to gush out the gushing of the waters
And he flung away there salt,
And he said,
“Thus says Yahweh,
‘I heal to these waters
And there will not be from there again death and miscarrying.’”
And the waters are healed until this day
According to the word of ‘Eliysha’ which he worded/spoke.

And he ascended from there [to] Beyt-‘El.
And he himself ascended on the way.
And attendants, small/lesser ones, came out from the city
And they mocked on him and they said to him,
“Ascend baldy! Ascend baldy!”
And he turned backwards
And he saw them
And he cursed them in the name of Yahweh.
And came out two bears from the woods
And split open from them forty and two lads.
And he walked from there to Mount Karmel.
And from there he returned to Shomron.
