5.    The Annulment Process Is Expensive, But If You Pay Enough Money You Will Get One

Not only have diocesan tribunals always offered a “no pay due to hardship” option for people in financial crisis, but in September 2015, Pope Francis asked all dioceses to make their annulment processes available to petitioners at no cost, or with as little financial obligation as possible. Since then, many dioceses have eliminated the cost completely.

Have there ever been abuses in this area? Sure. But for the average Catholic, any diocese that hasn’t already eliminated their fees altogether, would greatly reduce or eliminate the fee if the petitioner simply could not afford it.
