4. Freed From It
An Unpleasant Reminder – You may want to dispose of the ring when seeing it in the jewelry box is like a slap in the face, reminding of the painful end of what was supposed to be a permanent, loving relationship.
Emotional Necessity – Sometimes the divorce is so devastating that it’s upsetting to see the ring. The ring might be a constant reminder of the feelings of failure and brokenness within your marriage and family.
Freedom From Pain – If a relationship had any type of abuse, the spouse that leaves the marriage may see the ring as a symbol of all the pain they endured. Removing the ring can be an important part of the healing process.
Toss It – Some people do literally toss their ring into somewhere unreclaimable, but please think twice about this one! You may be free from the ring, but you may never be free from the nagging wish that you’d sold it instead. Consider trading your sorrows for a bit of cash instead of for a few cathartic moments.
