CXXIV.
God is in this place!
(7/27)
Then Jacob woke from his sleep, and said, “Surely God is in this place and I did not know it.” (Genesis 28:16; read Genesis 28:10-17)
Jacob falls asleep and has a vision. Angels everywhere. Angels climbing up from earth to heaven and back again. And then a promise that he will be the parent of a great nation. He will be the recipient of God’s blessing and that blessing will bless others.
Upon awakening Jacob consecrates the place, describing it as Beth-El, the house of God. God is in this place and God is everyplace.
The Celts speak of “thin places,” where heaven and earth me and the light of God flows through ordinary life. Thin places are places of divine encounter and revelation. They can be anywhere and can be experienced by anyone.
Wherever you are is Beth-El. Wherever you God is a doorway to divinity. Revelation is around each corner. God is in this place and now we know it! We are standing on holy ground!

Loving God, reveal you love to us, show us a ladder of angels, let us know we are on Holy Ground. Amen.
