Faith in a Time of Pandemic – Perpetual Praise July 22, 2020

CXVII
Perpetual Praise
(7/22)

Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord, O my soul. I will praise God as long as I live; I will sing praises to God my whole life long. (Psalm 146:1-2)

Most of us don’t come from “praise the Lord” churches. We are more restrained, and yet sometimes we break out in an “Amen” or “Hallelujah” at the goodness of life, at making it through a tough time, at experiencing grace on a dark night, or simply rejoicing at the beauty of the earth.

Praise is a way of saying “thank you” to the Giver for the gift of life. Praise is a way of acknowledging the love we’ve received and the beauty of the earth. In praising God, our world expands, we see the interdependence of life, and find ourselves in a world of companions and friends. We discover that God is as near as our next breath and that the Creator of a billion galaxies is our intimate friend.

So let us rejoice in this day, give thanks to God, honor the world, and look for beauty and goodness everywhere.

Let me learn to praise you, O God, to rejoice in your love and the world you have created and bring joy to every task knowing that you are our God and companion. Amen.
