Every new year arrives with familiar pressures: be better, do more, fix everything.
We plan new goals, new habits and new versions of ourselves. We try to decide what our 2026 focus will be. But what if this year didn’t begin with striving to make changes, but with Christ-centered living? What if the focus wasn’t on becoming someone new, but on returning to the One who never changes?

As Christians, it’s easy to unintentionally make Jesus part of our plans instead of the center of them. We build spiritual routines, set faith-related goals, choose a word for the year and still find ourselves anxious, distracted and spiritually dry by February.
Making Christ the focus of a new year isn’t about adding more religious activities. It’s about re-centering our hearts, our decisions and our expectations around Him.
How to Make Christ the Focus
Here are a few practical, and deeply spiritual ways to do that as we step into 2026.
Begin with Surrender, Not Strategy
Most New Year planning starts with control: calendars, checklists and resolutions. But Scripture shows us a different starting point.
Before Jesus began His public ministry, He withdrew, He prayed. and He submitted Himself fully to the Father’s will.
Surrender isn’t passive, it’s a powerful action. It’s the posture that says, “Lord, You lead. I will follow.”
As you get into 2026, ask yourself:
- What am I holding on too tightly to?
- Where am I relying on my own strength instead of God’s direction?
- What would it look like to invite Christ into my plans before I finalize them?
A surrendered year doesn’t lack intention, it simply places intention in God’s hands.
Let Your Spiritual Life Shape Your Goals
We often build goals first and then ask God to bless them later. But when Christ is the focus, spiritual formation shapes everything else.
Instead of asking: What do I want to accomplish this year?
Try asking: Who is God inviting me to become?
When your walk with Christ is centered on Him, goals shift naturally, ambitions soften, priorities clarify and relationships matter more. Success looks different.
Your faith isn’t a category, it’s the lens through which every category is viewed.
Choose Daily Faithfulness Over Big Spiritual Promises
Many believers start the year with lofty spiritual goals: read the entire Bible, pray for an hour a day, never miss church, remember that God is in control, and then… life happens.
Christ-centered living is built on daily faithfulness, not spiritual perfection.
Jesus meets us in small, ordinary moments:
- a whispered prayer while washing dishes
- a verse read slowly instead of many chapters rushed
- obedience in hard situations
- trust in uncertainty
The goal isn’t spiritual performance. It’s consistent presence with Jesus.

Aligning Your Calendar with What You Say Matters
One of the clearest indicators of what we value is how we spend our time.
If Christ is the focus of 2026, He will be reflected in:
- how often we spend time with Him
- how quickly we turn to prayer
- how we rest
- how we respond to interruptions
This doesn’t mean filling your calendar with church activities. It means allowing Christ to shape your daily habits – work, rest, relationships, and quiet time.
A Christ-centered calendar makes room for both purpose and peace.
Anchor the Year in God’s Unchanging Truth
Worldly culture will always continue to shift. Headlines will continue to change. Fear will continue to shout. But Christ remains the same yesterday, today and forever. (Hebrews 3:8)
When Jesus is our focus, stability comes from truth rather than circumstances. It’s Scripture that becomes our anchor, not just our inspiration.
As you enter 2026, consider grounding the year in:
- a guiding Scripture
- a spiritual theme rooted in God’s character
- a commitment to return to HIS truth when emotions run high
- a word that summarizes your commitment to God
This isn’t about ignoring the world, it’s about standing firm within it.

Trust That Christ Is Already in Your Tomorrow
One of the quiet fears behind New Year planning is uncertainty. We don’t know what 2026 will hold, but we do know Who holds it.
Making Christ the focus of the year means trusting that He is already present in every unknown moment ahead: every joy, every challenge and every unanswered prayer. Jesus goes before us – that we can rely on. (Deuteronomy 31:8)
You don’t need to map out the entire year. You only need to walk closely with Jesus today.

2026 Focus Won’t Be Perfect, It Will Be Purposeful
This year you will still struggle, get distracted and fall short at times. But when Christ is your focus, grace fills the gaps.
2026 doesn’t need to be the year you finally “get it right.” It can be the year you stay rooted, returning again and again to the feet of Jesus…and that kind of focus changes everything.
Blessings,
Amy
