Robert Treskillard, one of the bloggers for the CCSF Blog Tour, carried on an interview with me via email over the last several days, and today that interview is published on his site. Thanks for the thoughtful questions, Robert! More reviews are popping up here: (more…) Read more

I once experienced a reunion that left me absolutely speechless. I was working in a video store when I got to know an interesting young couple. Regularly, they’d visit the store and ask, “So, Jeff, what should we watch tonight?” I’d recommend something, and off they’d go without bothering to do any more browsing. Years later, I saw the fellow at a bus stop. He looked world-weary and a little lost. I asked him how he and his girlfriend were... Read more

Many thanks to the bloggers of the CCSF Blog Tour who are commenting this week on Cyndere’s Midnight, the sequel to Auralia’s Colors! I’ve already participated in several email interviews for this tour, and I’m delighted to find that some of the bloggers seem to have enjoyed the story. That’s encouraging me as I write myself closer and closer to the end of the third book this week. (Let me extend a special “thank you” to those bloggers who have... Read more

Believe it or not, I still hear Christians who declare that Bono isn’t a believer. In spite of his testimonies in public, in print, in music, and in deed. And here he is again, in a monster of an article about the band and its singer, talking about the steep climb of putting faith into action (and into art) while world-famous: SOH What intrigues me, though, is this tricky place you are in, which is quite unprecedented in pop star... Read more

Today I was a guest on the radio program “Along the Way.” We discussed Christianity Today Movies’ “Most Redeeming Films of 2008.” But I was also asked to recommend some romantic movies for Valentine’s Day. We didn’t have time to discuss more than a few, but here’s the list I hurriedly threw together for their website: (more…) Read more

Everybody and their cousin is posting the video of Joaquin Phoenix’s appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman, in which the actor behaved very strangely, and the whole world suddenly erupted in expressions of sadness and concern for the actor. Sigh. Here we go again. Weren’t we just talking about this issue? Blogs are lining up to post the video so that all the world can see a celebrity’s meltdown. Just as we did with Christian Bale’s cuss-a-thon, we’re... Read more

WARNING: This trailer pertains to a Quentin Tarantino film. That is to say, it’s not for the squeamish. It is a marketer’s job to make a product appealing, to cultivate an appetite for what they’re selling. This leads me to some questions… (more…) Read more

And now for a long and rambling note about something relatively unimportant and open to debate… Reading this review of Cheri, an upcoming Stephen Frears film that stars Michelle Pfeiffer, I felt a momentary surge of hope. But I’ve learned not to keep that hope in check… (more…) Read more

If you can find anybody who writes about music with more eloquence, passion, and historical knowledge than Andy Whitman, please let me know. He’s my favorite. Nobody can send me running to spend money on music I haven’t heard before like Andy can. Alas, Andy had bad news today. Like so many are hearing bad news this month. If you have any encouragement for him, or tips, I’m sure he’d appreciate it. Prayers are good too. Read more
