In the days of Moses, people in the world worshiped tons of gods. The Bible mentions all kinds of false gods and goddesses—including Asherah (Deuteronomy 16:21; 1 Kings 18:19), Baal (Numbers 25:3; Judges 6:28), Molech (Leviticus 18:21; Jeremiah 32:35), and Chemosh (Judges 11:24; 1 Kings 11:33). People believed the various gods and goddesses promised to give them different things: sex, fame, money, pleasure, comfort, fertility, power, promotion. Some of us will read about these gods and goddesses in the Bible and... Read more

After introducing himself as “the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery” (Exodus 20:2), God gave the people of Israel the first commandment: “You shall have no other gods before me” (20:3). God started by teaching his children the most important thing—“Kids, don’t forget this: one God.” The commandments were given in order of importance, one through ten. Their progression enables them to build off one another. The first... Read more

Peter, one of Jesus’ disciples, said, “For whatever overcomes a person, to that he is enslaved” (2 Peter 2:19). As we look at the story of the Israelites receiving the Ten Commandments, some people might say, “This is an interesting historical survey of slavery. Thankfully, I am free, and it does not apply to me.” Yes, it does. The United States of America is supposed to be the land of the free. But sadly, it is the land of the... Read more

So how should we interpret and study the law? Jesus said, “Everything written about me in the Law of Moses . . . must be fulfilled” (Luke 24:44). And, “The law is about me.” The Old Testament is about Jesus. The New Testament is about Jesus. Everything foreshadows his coming, explains his victory, or prepares us for his coming again. The whole Bible is about Jesus. That’s what Jesus said. The law shows us our sin and our need for a Savior.... Read more

“You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the LORD your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing steadfast love... Read more

I have five kids. I love them will all my heart and have learned some amazing lessons from being their dad. For example,  some years ago I was in the house studying when I heard the weirdest sound coming from outside: clunk, clunk-clunk, clunk-clunk. Confused, I went to check it out. One of my sons had one of those little plug-in, power-up kid Jeeps with the hard tires on it. He happened to be far away from our house, apparently... Read more

It seems obvious that sins aren’t all equal. Let me put it this way: If your neighbor coveted your possessions, that’s a sin. If your neighbor hired a U-Haul, threw all your stuff in the back, and drove away, that’s a sin, too. It seems obvious which one is worse, right? If someone lusted after his boss’s wife, that would be a sin. And so would sleeping with her! Are those two sins equal in God’s eyes? You might naturally think some sins are worse than others. But what does the Bible say? Watch my video to get the answer. Read more
