The Taser States of America

The Taser States of America November 16, 2012

Seems like hardly a week goes by that you don’t hear about some power-drunk cop tasing somebody for some triviality. This week’s story: some guy on his own property, defending his own house and his own family from a fire, using his own garden hose is tased by this week’s police state bully.

I hope he sues the cops and I hope he takes them to the cleaners. This was way out of line.

    Hardly a day, not week.

Nothing will happen to the cops. The taxpayers of the locality will be taken to the cleaners if the man prevails.,0,941564.story

Cops regularly shoot the family dog –

Whoa! Should the officer be charged with some sort of reckless endangerment, too (I’m not sure of the exact legal requirement for such a charge)? To me, it seems incredibly dangerous to taze a man while he’s holding a hose of running water.

    • Noah D

Why? The target is already getting the full charge of the Taser, water won’t make any difference. If anything, it might disrupt the circuit. The Taser manufacturer advises against zapping someone near or in water because of the drowning risk.

Makes sense. The taser voltage won’t get increased by the water flow.

  • Something else just as disturbing: the article makes it sound like the police assume a private citizen has no right to help fight a fire in his own neighborhood, that fighting fires can only be done by professional firefighters.

I can maybe see preventing the guy from doing something irrationally dangerous, like running into a burning building. But it appears that he was at a distance from the fire spraying water at the leading edge to keep the fire from spreading. And the police response was “Let the insurance handle it.”

Suppose the fellow had his own taser and shot back?

    • Mark Shea

That would be terrorism and they could murder him in cold blood.

In this day and age he’d be dead…
