For our Vampire Elite…. June 9, 2014

patriotism is a quaint notion that the lower orders believe in, and which is useful manipulating them as our Ruling Class pull up stakes and ditch America. The country is useful for sucking dry and ginning into a war when desirable. But *loving* their country? Please. How childish. Our Ruling Class isn’t into the whole “love God and neighbor” thing. That’s for the lower orders too. And patriotism is nothing other than the love of neighbor. Our Ruling Class sees most neighbors as the butcher sees the cow.

i agree entirely with the sentiment, but:

“So far as I can see, the United States has no anti-capitalist left whatsoever”

my mcconnell isn’t looking very hard.

and always remember, the working class has no country.

Are there anti-capitalist lefties still in the US? Sure. Do they have any power or significance? No. Not even a little.
Even those labeled as “socialist!” by the Glenn Becks and bill O’Reillys of the world are capitalist elitists through and through. Anyone who really thinks Barack Obama is a socialist has no understanding of what socialism is.
Our country simply has two major parties who disagree on the ratio of government/business or business/government. But neither are the least bit anti-capitalist.

Thanks for saying this. Barack Obama is a typical Western liberal elitist corporate stooge, not a bomb-throwing socialist. Sure, he’s to the left as far as the US goes, but he’d be right at home among the corporate elitists in Brussels. Though, to be fair, the socialists in Europe, at least in the major parties (Labour, German SPD, French Socialists) all for this description as well.

I’m not sure I’d even put Obama in “the Left,” considering that his economic policies are to the Right of Richard M. Nixon.
It just goes to show you how far Right the GOP has gone when Nixon now looks like a Leftie pinko.

“I have formed a very clear conception of patriotism. I have generally found it thrust into the foreground by some fellow who has something to hide in the background. I have seen a great deal of patriotism; and I have generally found it the last refuge of the scoundrel.” (G.K. Chesterton)

Well, sure Mark – the landless, capitalist elite don’t care about the masses. In other news, water is wet and fire is hot.

When you have a high corporate income tax, and a low capital gains tax, this is exactly what I’d expect corporations to do. When congress is effectively paying you to relocate, why wouldn’t you?

  • I always thought the lyrics to CCR’s Fortunate Son were some of the most naive things written in the ’60s.

  • Companies have a lifecycle and even among the successes, very few succeed to live past 125 years. The problem isn’t that Pfizer is fleeing the US. The problem is that we’ve made it too hard for 100 companies to be formed in the US to replace them. It’s this death by a thousand cuts for company formation that is a much bigger problem.

Were the US to birth a million companies a year and the same number of companies were to need to leave, in this case to less competitive shores to survive, I would be just as indifferent to the process of departure but I suspect that you would not mind it nearly as much as we struggled with the problems of a booming economy and sub 2% unemployment.
