Rick Warren Calls for Protestants to Unite with Catholics and the “Holy Father”

Rick Warren Calls for Protestants to Unite with Catholics and the “Holy Father” December 18, 2014

There are only two classes of people who regard this as a threat. Anti-Catholic Protestants like James White and anti-Catholic Reactionary Catholics who always construe kind words said about Francis as an indictment of Francis and not as the obvious evangelical opportunity they are.

Weird to be living in a time when professional anti-Catholics are united with the Greatest Catholics of All Time in attacking the successor of Peter as the enemy of the Faith.

When the dust settles Peter the Rock will be the one standing.

I was taken aback by the arrogance of this commenter: “The Holy Spirit helped me peg Warren as utterly unqualified for the
pastorate about 1 week after I first heard who he was (which was many
    years ago).”

Can you provide a link to a not batshit crazy site on this happy development?

I dunno. Matt Slick’s comments sound pretty batshit crazy.

Yeah, this: ” must conclude that Mr Warren does not take the word of God seriously and/or he does not understand the damnable teachings of Roman Catholicism regarding salvation” betrays such a lack of understanding. It reminds me of the Bishop Sheen quote about millions hating what they *think* the Church is. It’s a shame that Slick’s org. has the word “research” in its title.

I clicked through to Slick’s website and it’s the usual fundamentalist proof-texting use of Scripture and misrepresentation of Catholicism and history. It’s a real shame the man can’t be bothered to google little questions like “did jesus or the apostles quote from the deuterocanon” (quick answer, yes) or bother to read a bit farther into James 2 (he quotes verse 12 but doesn’t bother to get to vs 24 since it would contradict his point).

So it seems that on the one hand we have the class bully, and on the other the sniveling kid who eats his boogers; you know, the one even the bully won’t touch because he whines to the teachers and has the most annoying scream.
    .
And the rest of us just keep on praying that all be one. Come, Lord Jesus!

It seems like The Greatest Catholics of All Time get themselves into these binds by their language and view of everyone outside of their immediate group as “the enemy.” They problem with thinking and saying that everyone outside of their small group is the enemy is that they don’t know what to do when these people show up at the doorstep of the church or even show the smallest interest in the faith. It’s the same problem they have with Elton John.

Has anyone read “A Confederacy of Dunces,”lately? That Matt Slick article is one more reason I knew Ignacious Reilly in real life. Can you imagine the exchange?

    • Liam

      *wish I knew Ignacious

    It’s the freaking Twilight Zone.

I’m looking forward to seeing it on my family and friend’s FB pages with quotes from Revelation about the world wandering after the Beast.

The Greatest Catholics of All Time are such a powerful force, we can only thank God for the *Real* Greatest Catholics of All Time [RGCAT-TM] for unceasing vigilance in protecting us all from the phony ones.

  • RobW

Im sure there will be massive conversions now, Warren included, then instead of closing all these parishes there will full Catholic Churches on every block. Yea.

Weird to be living in a time when professional Catholics are united with the Greatest Anti-Catholics of All Time in attacking the successor of my Peter as the enemy of the Faith Hill. It’s the freaking Twilight Zone.

      “Faith Hill”?
