My son Peter got the word last night: he’s been cast as the Beast in the upcoming CORE Theatrics production of Beauty and the Beast. We are, of course, busting our buttons here at Chez Shea. Peter, who is currently rehearsing to play Bottom in A Midsummer Night’s Dream is noticing that he seems to get cast as Jerk Who Gets Transformed into Animal a lot. He’s not sure what that means, but he’s vibrating with excitement over getting cast.... Read more
A reader writes: I wrote to you and your readers about a year ago, and with the help of their prayers I was hired at a job I really enjoyed, with a boss I really liked. I have been there about a year and just found out that we are being taken over by another company, and my position may be axed. The one a couple of years ago was about our urgent need to colonize Mars because earth wouldn’t last–a statement something like saying the population of Seattle needs to all move to... Read more
Bishop Slattery evidently knocked one out of the park at the big Pontifical Mass in DC yesterday. A reader writes: This was an unbelievable sermon delivered yesterday and it is likely to be getting a lot of coverage in Catholic blogs. I was blessed to find the full text in my inbox this morning after making comments online that I would like to have it. I have since added a link to the blog of Father Z where he has... Read more
the one child policy. Welcome news if true. I wonder if that’s because they are now entering into the “How were we supposed to know?” phase of history as a generation awash in testosterone is realizing it has no prospect for marriage and is starting to feel the need to direct all that frustrated energy towards, oh, I don’t know, changing the government, violently if necessary?
