All blessings from the Bennett family to your tin cup saints! Thanks to their heroic efforts we’ve still got our heads above water (financially speaking) here in rain-soaked Georgia. I’ve still got no regular computer access, so I can only drop this small line…will do better when life settles down. Till then, we send our sincerest gratitude to you and your gang at CAEI. You’ve helped us more than you know…and acted like real Christians. Love to all,RB Inasmuch as... Read more

Young poseur learned so much from great writer Dan Brown, yet his enthusiasm for the Sacred Feminine did not help him notice that Sandra Miesel was co-author of The Da Vinci Hoax along with noted Angry Catholic Carl Olson. And what about Amy Welborn? And me and Ted Sri? Read more

…to the Bright Young Things at UBFreethinkers who are sort of realizing that Blasphemy Day is the Festival for Jerks and that Paul Kurz is right. After an atheist jerk with the appealing handle of “hammerkrieg” writes from his mom’s basement to whine: Nobody is going to listen to us if we only get butthurt about religions. We are kind of forced to troll because it’s better to look like a jackass than a sourpuss. Alphonsus replies: If “sourpuss” and... Read more

So chimeras are yielding zero (0) zip zilch results in the whole “Let’s play God so the Pepsi Generation Can Hog the Oxygen a Bit Longer” quest. Funding bodies in England are having trouble justifying the expense since nothing is, you know, happening. Naturally then, the headline says, “Vital embryo research driven out of Britain“. In my country, a “vital” thing is something that is actually significant, important and functional. Must be one of those differences between American English and... Read more

About the health care debate… 1) I think we need to consider the “wealth” of our country and how we divide it before this whole discussion of health care goes on. I view the whole nation’s wealth as a pie divided into two parts, private wealth and public wealth. The public wealth is schools and libraries and roads and the services provided such as police and ambulance and firemen. The private wealth we have is that which we earn and... Read more

Father Barron makes some interesting points in this clip discussing Alister McGrath’s Christianity’s Dangerous Idea, which also makes some interesting points that Catholics seldom thoughtfully consider, especially those of us who fancy ourselves “Catholic apologists”. I think Father Barron’s treatment is one that conversationally-oriented Protestants and Catholics ought to engage, as is McGrath’s book. It seems to me that it would be helpful if folks followed the link above and commented on the clip. If you get a chance and... Read more

on Karen Armstrong. He makes a fine point when he remarks that the early Fathers were dogmatic, but not Fundamentalist. Armstrong’s Episcopalianified squishiness attempts to preserve theism from the hostile onslaughts of Dawkins and Co by shrouding the whole thing in a fog of non-committal niceness and PC pieties. Douthat blows the fog away by noting that actual Catholic faith, while lithe and supple and ossified by the stupid categories of ideology, is nonetheless possessed of a definite skeletal structure... Read more
