A question has been perplexing me; feel free to print this in the blog if you like. This question of the “waterboarding” issue and the what is considered morally (and practically) acceptable. Let me say this at the outset of the conversation: I’m sure getting waterboarded was torturous. It had to really suck, no doubt. So did someone’s relatives getting threatened. All the discussion as to whether or not it was torture is indeed a waste of breath. However: Let’s... Read more
Like you, I am mystified and saddened by the wierd failure of Catholics to grasp evil of torture and the danger of unlimited government power, as lately evidenced by comments on the above post in your comments box. I started to add a comment, it got out of control length-wise, so I’m inflicting it on you directly via email: Here’s an idea: The key story, as far as being Catholic in a anti-Catholic world, is what happened from Pentecost to... I came across your blog and have a question. Do you have any thoughts on the revelations given to Anne at Direction for Our Times? These messages seem very compelling and almost too good to be true. Nope. No thoughts. I haven’t followed this at all and don’t know anything about it. No doubt some readers will weigh in. Read more
Reason #395485735934857334953983539: Your child will not need to be subjected to the tender mercies of Debbie Crabbe, Headmistress of Experiment House, and her yob hatchlings. Number of skipping robe bondage and scourging incidents at the Shea Household: 0. Also, no dinner ladies sacked for telling truth and no bizarre coverups. Ms. Crabbe should be handed her head post haste, along with all her toadies. Read more
Went camping with the Scouts over in Cle Elum this weekend. About 125 mile trip to the dry side of the Cascades (including a 4 mile dirt road). Think “northern California” in terms of climate. Much much drier. The trip was fun, basically a goof off weekend with no responsibilities, which was nice. The air there is very dry, and our campsite was in a gorge that made dawn come late and evening come early. What was most striking was... Read more
Today, my shuffling horde, I wish to give you more culture than a petri dish. As you toil at your pointless drudge work, ask yourself: why am I doing this when I could be learning to be an accomplised musician like this?: Then recall: “Oh yeah! It’s because of that iron shackle on my leg bolted to the wall of this fetid underground factory complex and the fact that I can’t read music by the glow of molten metal. Also,... Read more
For those of you who missed it yesterday, Rod Bennett and his family lost everything in the recent flooding in Georgia. Instead of my normal Tin Cup Rattle for the quarter, I’m asking folks to send what they can to Rod and his fambly. Now, I’m off with the Boy Scouts to go camping for the weekend out in the mountains! As per my normal instructions: you kids don’t put no beans up your noses. Ciao! Read more
