When asked what I enjoy most being a pastor I say the honor given me to listen to the stories of everyday people. I hear the secrets and struggles that not even family members may have heard. I let each one know how deeply touched I am that they would entrust me with their deepest thoughts. So I get to share the love of God with those who never had a friend who cared enough to listen without trying to judge and critique them.

If you as a Christian desire to share the love of Christ learn to open your heart and listen to your neighbor’s heart.  The strongest demonstration of the love of Christ is our willingness to show compassion by being a friend. It is one of the most meaningful actions any of us can do in life. It is the second commandment lived out to love our neighbors as one self. And remember if you love yourself you don’t tell anyone your secrets unless you trust them.  Don’t gossip or otherwise any positive impact will be lost. I am thankful I have had the opportunity to effect positive change in the life of others by taking the time to listen.

Who do you know that needs to tell their story? You may be the friend they need at this point in their life!

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with your entire mind and with all your strength. ’The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” Mark 12:30-31
