  • Host a costume party with your missional community and invite your friends and neighbors.
  • Have dinner in the front lawn with neighbors as you give candy to trick-or-treaters.
  • Take your kids trick-or-treating with your neighbors.

The last one may seem like a no-brainer, but there are so many traditional churches hosting “Trunk or Treat” events, that it becomes tempting to just cloister your kids away and keep them at the “safe” church-related events.

I’ll be taking my kids out around the neighborhood again this year. We’ve already identified the neighborhood that gives out the best candy — from previous years of trick-or-treating out in the area — and it just happens to be within walking distance of our house and where many of my kids’ friends live. Perfect.

What are your plans for Halloween? Are you dressing up? What would a missional Halloween costume look like? (Lesslie Newbigin, anyone?)
