Welcome to our new home + other updates November 1, 2011

Hello and salaams dear MMW readers,

I am honoured to be writing this as new Editor-in-Chief (aka Boss Lady) of Muslimah Media Watch.

We’ve been on hiatus over the past few weeks, making a few structural changes and coming up with other new ideas for how to make MMW even better.  Here are some of the changes that you will see over the next little while:

First, you might have noticed that we’ve moved!  MMW is now being hosted by Patheos, a website that brings together a number of blogs related to religion.  Our partnership with Patheos will help us publicise MMW more widely, and it brings a stability on the hosting/tech side that we’ve never had before.  Nothing about MMW’s content or editorial policies will change, so we’re still the same site, but now with a bigger team of people who can help us improve the site and get our posts to a wider audience.  The Patheos folks have been great to work with, and we’re all really excited about this partnership.

We’re also planning to expand on the kinds of posts we talk about.  While we’ll still be covering current events and news stories as usual, we’re also planning to spend more time branching out into other topics related to Muslim women in the media, looking, for example, at Muslim women in the arts, and at Muslim women who are themselves journalists or media producers.  These are topics we’ve covered at times in the past, and we’re planning to build on that past work by looking at these themes more extensively.  Stay tuned!

In addition to our normal posts, we will be having a number of guest posts, and  more roundtable-style group posts.  We’re working on a multimedia strategy, and hoping to start presenting some of our content in more creative ways in the months to come.  I’m also happy to introduce two new contributors, Anneke (who will be taking care of the Friday Links from now on) and Syma.

Anneke and Syma join our very capable team: Azra, Nicole, Tasnim, Diana, Sara, Eman, Eren, Samya, Merium, Sana, Lara, and Safiyyah.  I am blessed to be working with such intelligent and creative women, and truly honoured to be their Editor.

Thank you to all of our readers for being patient as we re-organized ourselves over the past month.  We hope that you will like the changes that you see!

Best wishes,

Krista Riley
