This week in Magical Astrology (Oct 14-20, 2019) October 13, 2019

Opening Thoughts:

There is always a lot going on up in astrology land but not every witch incorporates the planets and stars into their practice. For me, they are an essential part of magic, not because those influences dominate how I practice, but because I see them as energy that I can work with when they present themselves. I am not waiting around for the right astrological alignment, I am, instead, taking advantage of opportunities when they present themselves.

Astrology isn’t about blaming our issues on the perceived motion of a neighboring planet; it is the study of the energies radiating from the planets and constellations as they influence humankind. If you recognize that the Earth has its own vibration, you cannot deny that other planets do as well. Those vibrations mix like tracks on playlist and the gods are the DJs. That is a bit of a poetic simplification, but it doesn’t need to be more to you than that. What astrology does is essentially show us the playlist so we can figure out the general mood, tone, and vibe of a certain moment in time. More thoughts on astrology in posts to come, but let’s say for now that astrology can give us the chance to harmonize with the vibration of our little region of the universe. Spirituality needn’t be involved, it’s all about vibration and frequency.

I thought I might try something a bit different with this week’s post. Instead of giving you a bunch of astrological information that may or may not be useful, I am going to highlight the particularly interesting aspects of the week and how we might tap into them as witches. Think of these as magical opportunities that are in your grasp.

This Week’s Highlights:

The Moon will be Void of Course

When the Moon is Void of Course (also known as void or VoC for short) psychic, intuitive, and emotional elements of our personalities will be less reliable and so projective magic is generally avoided if possible. Instead internal magic such as that obtained through meditation, trance, and past life regression are favored. The Moon goes void multiple times each week.

Damn Moon in Taurus (Highlighting Pluto and Chiron)- you crazy!

Tuesday- Weds night is bound to be quite the magical time for all of us, and our workings should be done with great ease and met with little resistance. The astro-babble behind this is that the Moon will be transiting through Taurus, and Venus, which is the ruling planet of Taurus, is in a particularly chummy alignment with both Pluto and Chiron. In addition, both the Sun and Mercury are having a similar affair with Neptune. Pluto, Chiron, Neptune, and Mercury are all planets known for their magical prowess, so to have all of them playing nice together brings us a particularly occult leaning period of time. Think of it like a celestial coven meeting and we are all invited.

Magic should be powerful and clear at this time and the same can be said for psychic abilities, soul flight, and all things related to crossing the hedge. When in doubt, tap into the waning element of the Moon during this phase and allow this to be a time of cleansing, banishing, and blockbusting. This will last all the way until the Moon enters Gemini on Weds night.

Venus is knee-deep in Scorpio and only we know the safety word

Scorpio is one of those signs that often gets misinterpreted because its particular set of traits tend to be low on tolerance and high on expectation. Scorpio is all-or-nothing, it demands truth and intensity and when those aren’t present in a situation, Scorpio will use them as weapons (or tools) to take control of the moment. This is a fantastic survival mechanism but with the intensity that tends to follow, can lead to conflict in life. Venus, the planet of love and relationships, will be transiting through Scorpio until November 1, 2019.

If you are in a bad relationship or have been wanting to define/expand your definition of what your relationship is, now is a pretty good time to take care of that. Magic for these things will be particularly powerful and things like condition oils, incense, and other crafts that aide in romantic intensity should be made at this time. Regardless, we are all being drawn closer and deeper to our sexual/romantic partners (or at least our search for them is getting clearer) at this time.

What sticks out to me is the propensity to help us make tough decisions and/or approach difficult topics that might otherwise be ignored or go unspoken in our relationships. This is a time when sex will be better, especially if you are an energetically minded person, as our primal selves will be drawn to go deeper and feel our partners in mind, body, and soul. Anything less than good, connective, soul-to-soul sex will feel like a waste of time. If you are your own sexual partner, don’t hesitate to explore and experiment at this time and remember the power of self-sex magic! The line from the Charge of the Star Goddess comes to mind, “All acts of love and pleasure are my rituals.”

Closing Thoughts:

This is a good week to try out new things or at least to do that thing that you’ve been wanting to do, especially magically. It couldn’t come at a better time really with autumn finally settling in here in the northern hemisphere. The days are growing shorter, the leaves are changing, temperatures are dropping, and we are all feeling a little witchier. The astro-weather and the actual weather appear to conspiring to get us in the mood.
