Opening Thoughts: Happy Scorpio Season!

As I mentioned last week, Scorpio is easily one of the most misunderstood signs in all of the zodiac. We can feel the influence of Scorpio in our chart in multiple ways (I talk about that in my book), so one needn’t necessarily have a birthday over the next month to embody Scorpio traits. You might be like me and have a planet other than the Sun in Scorpio, or maybe your partner or child has a lot of Scorpio juju in their chart.

Coming from an entirely different angle, as witches we can tap into the energy of Scorpio when it is being widely aspected the most; AKA Scorpio Season, October 23 – November 22. Pretty much all magic that we do during this time will be affected by Scorpio, so we might as well lean in and see how to make the most of it.

This Week’s Highlights

The Moon will be Void of Course 

When the Moon is Void of Course (also known as void or VoC for short) psychic, intuitive, and emotional elements of our personalities will be less reliable and so projective magic is generally avoided if possible. Instead internal magic such as that obtained through meditation, trance, and past life regression are favored. The Moon goes void multiple times each week.

Magic for Scorpio Season

Probably the most important thing happening this week in the astro-weather is that the Sun will be moving into Scorpio, and dragging all of us with it, on Wednesday.

I will spare you the normal spiel about Scorpio and get to the good stuff, at least what I think is the good stuff, from a magical perspective. Again, check out my book for the basics. I think of the zodiac as a prism dividing the various aspects of humanity, personality, and civilization into twelve observable rays of light. Within them lay our very best and our very worst and depending on just how those rays shine upon us, we are exposed to either or all.

Scorpio is the keeper of the gate between the living and the dead. If we want to get technical, Samhain happens halfway through Scorpio Season when the Sun goes 15* Scorpio. This year that is on November 7 and is when the veil is astrologically at its thinnest. Every year, like mythological Chiron, Scorpio ushers us into the underworld and back out again. Because of this, we can work with the energies present to communicate with the dead and departed with ease. Seances, talking boards, and pretty much any magic related to the spirit world can be performed with astrological support at this time. In fact, the energy is so potent that we tend to stumble upon the spirit world even when we aren’t looking for it.

Of all the signs, Scorpio hates the superficial and all things mediocre. So much so that it tends to upset the balance if it sees that balance as being responsible for either of those things. Because of this, we can always look to Scorpio to inspire a bit of anarchy and chaos when things start to look a little too Stepford or 1984. Do magical work during this time to break through norms and toxic aspects of your life and to reveal the truth in any situation.

Mercury and Venus are also in Scorpio…

Yeah, SO MUCH SCORPIO energy in the air right now. How these two planets are affected from a magical point is actually quite fascinating. The good stuff will come to us in the way of communicating about difficult and usually uncomfortable subject matter. We will be able to face the gross and unforgettable at this time, but we will also be left with the need to process it afterwards. We could easily dive into sex or romantic partnerships that burn hot but have little staying power. Everyone is hungry for more at the moment, so for those of you who are single and dating, watch out for players this week; their game will be strong! Do enjoy responsible sex magic. Do have life-altering discussions with close friends. Do face your demons. But be careful not to keep things too heavy for too long this week. If you find yourself wading in the deep switch gears and lighten up.

Closing Thoughts:

All in all this is a week that is primed to be spooky and spiritual, but only if you open yourself up to those things. Yes, we are heavy on the Scorpio energy at this time but give it a little over a week and we will be in all new territory. Enjoy that this week things are astrologically relatively calm and make the most out of opportunities to connect.
