I’ve just stumbled upon an episode from an Australian TV show exploring the world’s religions, hosted by someone called John Safran. I gather he’s a popular if somewhat controversial media personality down under. Here’s an episode that shows his encounter with Zen. Yeah it’s smarmy. But it’s also funny. And, besides, even if he thinks he gets it and is smirking, we can also enjoy that he doesn’t in fact get it. Anyway I find it a very rich hash with a bit of real Japanese Rinzai Zen thrown in at no extra charge. I think that’s worth a tad more than nine minutes…
