Church Life Continues

Church Life Continues 2011-11-01T15:12:19-07:00

Today continues the mad dash of church start up.

I’ve already had a quick visit over early morning coffee with our congregational president.

I’m soon (like in ten minutes) off to visit with the interim minister of the Beneficent Congregational Church in downtown Providence. Roughly a million years ago they were a schism from the First Church, which would in turn evolve into being First Unitarian. From the stories I hear both sides claim to have been the “liberal” part of the break up. Which I find delightful. I gather whatever acrimony there was healed quickly, and for many, many years there were pulpit exchanges between the congregations (that means their ministers would preach at each other’s congregation). This tradition has died out in recent years and I, for one, would like to see it start up again…

Later, more scheming and plotting around our lay ministry program and our communications.

And then off with a leader in our social justice activities to be “wall paper” at a press conference where local clergy and others are calling for activism to end poverty in our communities and nation. A worthy cause. And it will be my first chance to meet with local clergy and other faith leaders with similar feelings about this and similar causes…

Tonight we kick off the training for our congregation’s religious educators. The First Church’s Religious Education operation is a big ‘un, and our Director of Religious Education has quite a program set up to handle it…

Looks like it is going to be a good day in Providence…
