Being gone for sesshin even as briefly as three days (and, really, this means two days, plus an evening and a morning), and the world becomes a new place.
Not the least of it this morning getting up at ten to six was very, very easy.
And my goodness that shower felt good!
Stopping on my way to the office and indulging a latte urge was a pure and unmitigated treat. Felt deliciously wicked (a whole subject for further reflection, no doubt…)
And now at the office, every task feels numinous.
I’ve dropped some dates into my calendar for the Rhode Island Interfaith project that they’re trying to get off the ground. It’s local clergy wanting to focus on poverty issues. I’m also finally in the organizational loop for the UU Legislative Ministry, Rhode Island project. I think this is going to be a major outreach focus for me going forward, particularly as I gather there may be some supportive legislation for local involvement in Housing First, something I’m very interested in.
I do love that rhythm of reflection and engagement. And I love how each bleeds into the other, breathing life into the other, making each about the other…
Good stuff.
The office is quiet right now, although the beginning bustle is happening just out side my open door, where they’re setting up for the church’s monthly Food Pantry.
And now my thoughts are turning to our Christmas “pickup” pageant this coming Sunday. it is my long held contention that Christmas belongs to Unitarians at least as much as to anyone else. Certainly our New England Christmas, particularly the Massachusetts version happens because nineteenth century Unitarians reclaimed it following a century of Puritan suppression. (They quite correctly saw it as a thinly Christianized pagan holiday.) I love the celebration of the birth of a baby and all the story that goes with it. Great stuff. And I’m hoping we’re going to have a splendiferous time of it Sunday…
