Susan Blackmore on Zen

Susan Blackmore on Zen January 23, 2009

I’m deeply interested in the work of the British psychologist Sue Blackmore. Early in her life she took an interest in parapsychology, and put together a doctoral program in order to study it. By the time she finished her studies she had determined there was so little evidence in support of the major claims of parapsychology that she felt comfortable rejecting the field.

She has continued to apply this relentless looking to a number of areas. Along the way she has become a leading authority on the concept of memes and has written my absolutely favorite introduction to psychology.

Her interests are wide, and she seems to give the same relentless take no prisoners form of investigation to everything she cares about.

Including, as it turns out, Zen.

If you go over to the lists to the right, you’ll notice I link to her blog.

And now I’ve just received an announcement of a new book by Dr Blackmore that has come out of her relentless looking at Zen.

I suspect at the very least it will prove interesting.

I know I’m going to advance order it…
