Yesterday following the worship service our Standing on the Side of Love committee had at its information table as a fundraiser small paper cups of (fair trade) chocolate hearts for sale. Five hearts for a dollar.

Small girl whose head just raised above the height of the table eyes the chocolates fiercely…

When she thinks no one is noticing a small hand creeps along the table and snatches two of the hearts.

Passing adult, not the parental unit, says, “Hey, there, Sally (not a real name, names have been altered to protect the guilty)! Put that chocolate back.”

Slowly the small hand replaces a heart.

“There’s another one in your pocket, Sally.”

Second heart is replaced.

Woeful eyeballing of chocolate continues until parental unit calls her away…

In my fantasy life this is one of those magical moments. She could have grown up to be a bank robber (or, who knows, maybe a banker). Now, instead, she’ll become a human rights lawyer….

Yeah, yeah, too much…

But its my fantasy.

And our village…
