I am still reeling from President Obama’s announcement yesterday that he is gay

Stephen Colbert tells us, “I am still reeling from President Obama’s announcement yesterday that he is gay.”

What a week…

I know people, particularly the president’s political opponents, if enemy is too strong a term, who like to point out that he was apparently in favor of marriage equality when running for state senate, and then against when running for senate and the presidency, until now, when he’s in favor.

Political expediency when noticed is never a pretty thing.

But, except for the points they hope to score, pretty meaningless in the face of the fact we have a sitting president declaring for marriage equality in this nation.

It is breathtaking in its import.

The local Roman bishop declares the president’s radical agenda is contrary to biblical teachings. I’m not sure if he means the not marrying foreigners part, the polygamy part or what. But for increasing numbers of people such stands appealing to vague or contradictory religious texts in support of intolerance is increasingly obviously absurd.

And now the president of the United States joins the chorus for justice.

All pretty cool, if you ask me.

In bad times a small word of hope…
