On this day in 1922 Benito Mussolini became Prime Minister of Italy, casting a shadow that would eventually morph into the Second World War. In 1926 the magician Harry Houdini died, the result of a punch to the gut. In 1961 the late Soviet dictator Josef Stalin’s body was removed Lenin’s tomb. In 1984 India’s Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi was assassinated by her bodyguards. And it was on this day in 2011 that the world’s population officially reached seven billion people.
